Jane Rutter returns to The Street Theatre with her new work An Australian in Paris for two performances on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August.

Described by ABC Classic FM as ‘one of Australia’s leading performance artists’, Jane has long been held in high regard for her work as a classical musician while her fervent creativity has lead her to explore jazz and popular music, cabaret, theatre and poetry within many of her pieces.

This new concert theatre piece sees Jane re-live her days as a young musician learning about life in the rich artistic environment of the French capital.

‘An Australian in Paris’ includes delicious French music from La Belle Epoque to the present day. La Belle Epoque is French for The Beautiful Era, a period which began during the late 19th Century and lasted until WW1. (Recently released movie ‘Cheri’ by Colette, starring Michele Pfeiffer, is set in this delicious period of French history.) Intertwining luscious French music with snippets of French poetry and her own anecdotes, Jane relates her experiences in this beautiful romantic city, including the tales of many other artists, writers and musicians who flocked to Paris to create their artistic personalities.

An Australian In Paris is showing at the Street Theatre on Saturday 20 August 2011, 7:30pm and Sunday 21 August 2011, 4pm.
