The media has given celebs computer screens of flak for this season’s biggest do/don’t: visible shoulder pads.

Made big by Balmain’s Spring/Summer 09 collection, the visible shoulder pad has been seen sported by the likes of Rhiannon, Kim Kardashian and Kristen Cavallari, with none of them actually doing this tricky look any justice.

Shoulder pads hail from the 80’s, so keep the rest of your look polished and modern (go easy on the jewellery) to avoid looking like an unfortunate blast from the past.

Going for lace? It’s also a good idea to opt for a 3/4 or short sleeved arm length in this fabric to avoid ‘grandma’s curtains’ syndrome.

Camilla & Marc’s latest line showcases the epitome of visible shoulder pads – shoulder caps. When doing this look, keep it simple, opt for black and let the structure speak for itself. Avoid this look in bright colours – you may come out looking like a circus tent.

Camilla & Marc’s latest line, featuring shoulder pads, caps and strong, sexy structure, is be available in store late January at Soho Dezigns, Canberra City.
