There is something very comforting about Yarralumla. It has a leafy, relaxed, village-like feel, the kind where everyone seems to know their neighbours, whether they actually do or not. And sitting right in the middle of it all is Lamshed’s.
If you haven’t spent an afternoon working your way through a few glasses of minimal-intervention wine at one of their tables, you’re missing out on one of the capital’s great neighbourhood dining experiences.
Lamshed’s has spent years mastering the art of the local bistro. It’s the kind of place you can wander into for a relaxed afternoon, but the kitchen still puts out food that can hold its own against any of Canberra’s best restaurants.
The Sunday Roast
On Sunday 26 July, the team is putting on a multi-course roast lunch that is a far cry from the dry, overcooked roasts you may have had elsewhere.
This is a proper sit-down, long-lunch affair designed to make you cancel your afternoon plans, settle in and let someone else worry about the dishes.
On The Menu
The feast kicks off with sweet corn soup paired with rich morcilla, also known as Spanish black pudding, and pickled corn. That’s followed by golden pork croquettes with fennel and grape, plus a smashed cucumber salad with crispy chilli oil to keep things bright, fresh and punchy.
For the main event, they’re serving roast pork belly with apple chutney and crisp crackling. It comes with potato galette, sour cream and chives, which may well be potato in its most persuasive form, alongside miso-glazed sugarloaf cabbage with garlic pangrattato.
There’s also a fresh carrot salad tossed with honey vinaigrette and macadamias, because even a roast lunch needs something to make you feel mildly responsible.
To finish, dessert brings a little nostalgia with tempura banana, walnut ice cream and house-made granola.
Lock In Your Table
Lamshed’s locals are notoriously quick to book out their favourite corner spot, and a menu like this is bound to tempt a few people over the bridge too.
So, secure a seat, bring someone who appreciates a proper Sunday lunch and enjoy the rare pleasure of a roast with no prep and no clean-up.
