If you live in Canberra, chances are you know about the township located just outside of the ACT called Googong. But, have you ever really explored the area? With regular events, new restaurants, cafes and retail shops on the horizon, there is plenty of unmarked territory that is worth checking out.

A joint venture between leading Australian property developers Peet and Mirvac, Googong is known for its strong community spirit. Each year the town hosts a range of family-friendly events with many still planned for the remainder of the year, including KiteFest on Father’s Day, RFS Open Day in October and Christmas Carols and Markets in December. Their annual live festival, Googfest, is also one to mark in your diary, celebrating all things music in February 2024.

If you find yourself in Googong on an average day, The Googong North Village Centre is a great place to start. For locals, it has everything from an IGA, pharmacy and gym to a childcare centre, doctor’s surgery and hairdresser. While if you’re just visiting, for your daily caffeine hit and scrumptious brekky, head into Moker Bean Café or try Gorman & Co for a great pub feed and drinks.

A great place for families, the town has dedicated a quarter of its entire area to open space, with parks and vistas to enjoy. Be spoilt for choice with five sporting fields, nine playgrounds, three dog parks, a community garden, tennis courts, pump tracks, a skate park, basketball and netball courts, indoor swimming pool, a fitness trail and over 15km of walkways, bike baths and bush trails. And, if you thought that wasn’t enough, further additions are expected to be complete by 2027 including a recreation club.

This year it was also announced that the town centre, Googong Central, would open around 2025 which will include even more exciting venues for locals and visitors alike! Such as more supermarkets, cafes, bars, restaurants, businesses and retail shops. It will also be home to The Googong Hotel, which will offer a function, food and entertainment hub for the community and region.
