It’s nearly Valentine’s day and if you’re lucky enough to have scored yourself a date (not the dried fruit)  we have some tips on what not to order.

When there’s enough pressure on what to say, what to wear and where to eat, the last thing you want to worry about is focusing on how you look while you’re eating rather than the taste of your (possibly free) dinner. We’re no love experts, but we’ve put together a list to help a sister out.

Alternatively, If you don’t want to mislead them into thinking you opt for a salad instead of a burger bigger than your head, feel free to show off your true colours with these non-date foods.

Ribs/wings

Great for showing him you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty but if you’re destroying a forest with the number of napkins required it’s probably best to save this for later.

Spaghetti

They say Instagram is not real life but what about Lady and the Tramp? We just don’t look that cute slurping spaghetti.

Shellfish

This may cause smelling like the Great Barrier Reef… maybe leave this one to Christmas lunch.

Garlic and onion

We know garlic bread is love but unless you have some Colgate on you, maybe sit this one out (unless of course they insist).

Complicated orders

You don’t want to be that person who orders their olive oil vinaigrette on the side or a burger without the burger bun (unless of course you have allergies).

Hotdogs

This one speaks for itself.

Tacos or burritos

‘Por que no los dos’ is unfortunately not the motto here. We all know how much of a struggle these are to eat even without a date in front of you.

Big leafy greens

Hard to tackle and can cause green bits stuck in the teeth. They might think you need dental work.

Nothing

Not eating when someone has asked you out to eat is basically betrayal. Eating when you’re not hungry is better than leaving your date to go hungry!

Ice-cream on a cone

The most innocent of foods can cause serious overthinking- do you lick it? Do you bite it? What if it goes all over your hands? I’ll have my Messina in a cup thanks.

There are no real rules though… you’ve got to give the heart what it wants for V-day!
