Canberra is blessed with a collection of fabulous wineries within the local district. One of the best is Lerida Estate, and as part of the Wine, Roses, and all that Jazz Festival being held around the region over the coming weeks, this is a fantastic opportunity to get out into the country and taste some of the local delights, including at Lerida Estate.
Those delights include fine food, fine food and fine music, in keeping with the theme of the festival. At Lerida Estate, Saturday and Sunday of the festival weekend sees a very special lunch menu. Pairing the wine of Lerida’s Five Star Winery (as voted by Halliday), you can treat yourself to a Pulled Pork Panini (with a 2011 Shiraz) or perhaps a delicious home-made Beef Bouguigonne Pie matched with their Shiraz Viognier from the same year, and be sure to finish off with one of the many delicious desserts!
In keeping with the festival, a jazz element will come courtesy of As Famous as the Moon, a well known local jazz band who will be playing cool classic jazz sounds of the 40s and 50s. How fabulous!
For those who are curious about the art of winemaking, arrive at 11.00am on either day for a free vineyard and winery tour hosted by Jim, the proprietor and resident expert. Otherwise, do the Lake George Vineyards Walk (wear sensible shoes!), or challenge your friends to a game of Pétanque/Boules (winner to shout?).
