The mule is officially back for spring 2014. Mules were one of the shoe trends back in the 90’s, (think Carrie Bradshaw in Sex In The City). The mule has since been reinvented and updated by the chicest designers for a modern spin on their 90’s counterpart.

This shoe style comes in various shapes and forms, so finding a great pair won’t be hard. The tricky part is what do you wear them with?

Here are a couple of key lessons when slipping on this shoe for spring:

1. A sleek slip-on heel works well with a pleated or pencil skirt that falls below the knee. It’s perfectly proportioned and makes for an on-trend retro look.

2. When wearing a mule with pants, try on a pair with a bit of platform, especially when the denim is a wide-leg cut.

3. Mules should never be worn with a minidress or miniskirt (unless you want to look like a spice girl).

4. If in doubt, just remember, anything above the ankle and below the knee goes. With mules, as long as there’s an ankle showing and definitely not a thigh, it’s a winner.

However you decide to wear a classic mule this spring, these are definitely the most darling and demure heels that you can invest in now. Check out FSW, Target, Payless Shoes and Novo at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome to pick up a pair this season.
