Sausage dog owners and lovers, this one’s for you. Dionysus Winery and Woo Chocolates are hosting Wienerpalooza this Sunday 25 October. It’s three hours of wine, chocolate, a sausage sizzle and more dachshunds in one place than you’re likely to see anywhere else this year.

It’s just a short drive up the Barton Highway, and it’s for a good cause too.

Races, costumes and tricks

The dachshund races are the main event. If you’ve never seen a field of sausage dogs charging (or wandering) towards the finish line, it’s worth the trip for that alone.

There’s also a dress-up competition, so start planning your dog’s outfit now, plus a best trick category for pups who’ve been practising at home. In between events, you can wander the vines, swap notes with other owners and let your dog make a few new friends.

Wine, chocolate and a sausage sizzle

The humans are looked after too, with Dionysus wines, chocolates from Woo Chocolates and a sausage sizzle on the day. Dionysus is a small family winery in Murrumbateman, and a relaxed afternoon among the vines suits it well.

For a good cause

Proceeds from every ticket go to ACT Rescue and Foster, which finds homes for dogs across Canberra. So while your dog is busy competing for best dressed, you’re helping another one find a family.

Tickets are compulsory for everyone attending and non-refundable, so book ahead rather than turning up on the day.
