The Sapphires is coming to Canberra Theatre Centre, bringing a high-energy mix of Motown, soul and one of Australia’s most-loved stage stories to The Playhouse.

If you somehow missed the smash-hit movie or original stage show, here’s a quick run-down: The year is 1969, the Vietnam War is raging, and back home in regional Victoria, four talented Yorta Yorta sisters, Gail, Kay, Cynthia, and Julie, are busy singing country tunes. After catching the eye of a talent scout, they swap small-town stages for the frontlines of Southeast Asia, belting out Motown hits for American troops.
Based on the incredible true story of writer Tony Briggs’ mother, The Sapphires is a story of sisterhood, survival and music that still knows how to move a crowd.
A Legendary Team-Up
Queensland Theatre Company and Canberra Theatre Centre have joined forces to bring a fresh production of the show to The Playhouse, and original director Wesley Enoch is back at the helm, leading a new generation of First Nations performers through this much-loved Australian story.
Get ready for big voices, plenty of sparkle and a soundtrack full of soul classics that will have you tapping your feet from your seat.
