Canberra Theatre Centre has loaded its June lineup, giving us the perfect excuse to grab a pre-show glass of red and settle into a warm theatre seat. From soul-filled theatre to comedy, tribute concerts and live podcasts, here’s what’s worth leaving the house for this month.

Soul Vocals and Southern Charm

Continuing this week is The Sapphires (until 7 June), the much-loved Australian story of four Yorta Yorta women who take their voices from country Victoria to the frontlines of the Vietnam War. Expect big soul numbers, heart and a powerful story of sisterhood.

Later in the month, get ready to laugh and cry through Steel Magnolias (17–21 June). The classic tale of Southern sisterhood, gossip, and big hair in a beauty salon is warm, witty, and absolutely worth bringing tissues for.

Nostalgia on Blast

For those who prefer their winter soundtrack loud, there’s a great lineup of retro gold.

First up is Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells on 12 June, celebrating more than 50 years of the iconic progressive rock masterpiece.

But if you’re more about massive harmonies and space-age synths, ROCKARIA – The ELO Experience lands on 19 June, bringing the hits of Electric Light Orchestra to the stage.

To round out the retro vibes, The Sweet Caroline Tour arrives on 29 June with a Neil Diamond tribute full of favourites. Good times never felt so good, honestly.

Laughs to Thaw the Soul

Nothing beats the winter blues like a proper belly laugh. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow is rolling into Civic on 13 June, packing a line-up of local and international stand-up heavyweights.

Speaking of funny, Canberra locals clearly know a good thing when they see it. Local star Bron Lewis’ show on 18 June is already completely sold out!

If you missed out, grab tickets for Clueless: Murder with a twist (18–20 June) instead. It’s a chaotic, hilarious whodunit with plenty of laughs, twists and theatrical mischief.

Kids, Podcasts and Colonial Secrets

If you’ve got little ones to entertain before cabin fever kicks in, Andy Griffiths’ YOU & ME and The Land of Lost Things (26–27 June) is a guaranteed winner from the mastermind behind the Treehouse series.

For teens and music lovers, PLAY CHELLA 2026 hits the stage on 27 June, while the Lamestream Podcast Tour brings internet culture and live conversation to the theatre.

Finally, wrap up your month with An Evening with Marc Fennell: Stuff the British Stole on 30 June. Marc is bringing his wildly popular podcast and TV series to life on stage, unpacking the strange and uncomfortable stories behind some of the world’s most debated stolen treasures with his trademark wit and sharp journalism. It’s fascinating, funny, and highly educational.
