Schnapps, Pork Knuckle and Oompah Beats in Narrabundah
The crew at the Harmonie German Club have cooked up a very good reason to leave the house this winter.
The team behind Canberra’s Oktoberfest celebrations are cranking up the heaters and bringing Winter Schnappsfest back to Narrabundah this July. Expect schnapps, steins, hearty German food and plenty of oompah energy.
Liquid warmth and icy steins
Your entry ticket includes a complimentary schnapps on arrival to help kick off the night. From there, the bar will be pouring a lineup of authentic German schnapps, heavy-hitting imported beers, local wines, and crisp ciders.
The ultimate winter carb load
Drinking on an empty stomach in sub-zero temperatures is a rookie mistake. Thankfully, the kitchen is rolling out a massive spread of German comfort food designed to act as a culinary thermal layer. You can grab food on the night, or round up five mates and lock in one of the German Experience Reserved Tables.
For $240 total, your group will get a reserved table and feast delivered straight to you. We’re talking crackling-heavy pork knuckles, bratwurst, leberkäse, smoked pork loins, and schnitzels piled high with potato salad, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and a generous lake of haus gravy. It is glorious, unpretentious, and guaranteed to put you into a highly satisfying food coma.
Lederhosen and brass bands
Once the food and drinks settle in, Sydney’s famous German showband, The Masters of Oompah, will take the stage. Local legend Wes Heather is on MC duties, guiding the room through a night of slightly chaotic games and plenty of festive chaos.
Dig out the dirndl, squeeze into some lederhosen (or just wear your favorite warm layers), and make sure you grab your tickets early. This is expected to sell out faster than a car park on Lonsdale Street on a Friday night.
