If your social calendar is looking a little grey, here’s an opportunity to dress up for a genuinely good cause.
On Saturday 27 June, Project Independence will host its annual gala, Independence Illuminated, at the National Arboretum Canberra. It’s shaping up to be a night of celebration, connection and community impact.
Why It Matters
Project Independence is a Canberra-founded not-for-profit helping people with intellectual disabilities build independence, financial security and a pathway into their own homes.
It’s practical, meaningful work that supports people to have more choice, autonomy and long-term security.
This year, the team has also been building connections beyond their day-to-day work, including a collaboration with Underground Spirits on cocktail-making workshops. The sessions have given residents the chance to build confidence, learn new skills and connect with the local community.
It’s a lovely example of what happens when Canberra businesses and community organisations work together with purpose.
The Big Night
The gala itself is the main event. Expect the usual Arboretum magic, stunning views, even if it is a bit chilly outside, paired with canapés, cocktails, and a dress code that demands you pull out your best black-tie attire with a splash of glitter or gold where possible.
It’s not just about the clinking of glasses, though. Every ticket sold goes directly toward driving that vision of homeownership for more residents. If you’ve been looking for a way to support a local cause that creates tangible change, this is it.
