November is heating up and so is the talent in the capital. What better way to ring in the warm weather than to enjoy the new and exciting music acts on tour through Canberra this month.


The Dandy Warhols at ANU Bar
8:00pm Thursday 3 November

The Dandy Warhols are a groovy rock band straight outta Portland, highly regarded as a live act not to miss. The group has consistently delivered high-energy, feel-good performances since 1994. They have a number of iconic hits under their belt and are on their way back to Australia in support of their latest album, Distortland.

 

Hot Potato Band at Transit Bar
8:30pm Friday 4 November

If the Wiggle’s song Hot Potato sprung to mind, you’re on the wrong track. This 11-piece brass band is bringing their unique and undoubtedly BIG sound to Canberra. They have all the ingredients for a great show, including a ‘deconstructed’ drum kit, a sousaphone, saxophones, and an array of horns. How will they all fit on the Transit stage? You’ll just have to go and see for yourself.

 

Indian Summer at Mr Wolf
10:00pm Friday 4 November

This disc jockey duo smashed their way into the Australian dance scene in 2010 and continue to impress more and more each year. The boys have released four albums since 2013, touring twice in 2015 and performing at the likes of Falls Festival, Field Day, and Nina Las Vegas’ ‘Presents’ Tour. The highly-anticipated set will drop this Friday and is definitely worth a stop as the two head into the Summer festival season.

 

Day of the Dead Fiesta at Ainslie Art Centre
3:00pm Saturday 5 November

This celebration of Afro-Latin culture and music will feature an exciting variety of live bands, DJ’s and performances, accompanied by food and craft stalls, dancing, face painting and live art installations. The fiesta is a family friendly event, with tastes of Latin jazz, reggae, Brazilian roots, New Orleans funk, West African pop and Spanish guitar.

 

Ookay at Academy Club
9:00pm Wednesday 9 November

You know it’s a big deal when Academy is open on a Wednesday, and for Ookay’s electronica club set I would expect nothing less. Oookay’s shows are hailed for their intense energy and are responsible for his incomprehensible success in the booming electronic dance genre. Tear up the rug and get down mid-week to these revolutionary sounds.

 

British India at ANU Bar
8:00pm Friday 18 November

Catch the Canberra leg of British India’s tour promoting their newest single I Thought We Knew Each Other. This Melbourne based four-piece band have been busy since their last album Nothing Touches Me landed at #5 in the ARIA charts. This night will be a great follow-up for anyone who loved or missed their hit performance at Groovin’ the Moo earlier this year.

 

Voices in the Forest at Llewellyn Hall
6:30pm Saturday 19 November

For something a little bit different, check out Canberra’s operatic spectacular featuring a number of highly acclaimed singers accompanied by the Voices in the Forest, 50-piece orchestra. The night will have a strong local focus, with the Woden Valley Youth Choir supporting the well-known operatic arias. The show will be followed by a cocktail function, a vital addition to any great night out!

 

Holy Holy at The Basement
8:00pm Sunday 20 November

Holy Holy released their debut album last year and have already performed sold out tours across the country. Following the release of their newest single, Darwinism, the band has announced an Australia-wide tour, hitting the road this month. The performance of driving riffs, melodic lines, and hard-hitting lyrics is the perfect excuse for a smooth sailing Sunday-sesh.

 

Black Milk at Transit Bar
8:00pm Thursday 24 November

Black Milk is a rap act bringing new styles and sounds to Canberra from his hometown, Detroit. He has released a number of solo albums since 2006 as well as a live instrumental album with his band Nat Turner. This is sure to be an unmissable performance for any hip-hop fans out there looking for new sounds, incorporating a streak of jazzy funk into hard-hitting lyrics and chilled beats.

 

REMI at Transit Bar (featured in image)
8:00pm Wednesday 30 November

REMI is a hip-hop outfit from Melbourne kicking off an Australian tour in November for their new album, Divas and Demons. This is the act’s first headline performance in Canberra following a number of sold out shows in Melbourne. REMI has been nominated for the Australian Breakthrough Artist of the Year and labelled a hip-hop act not to be missed.
