If your living room has become a stage for impromptu pop concerts, Luminescence Children’s Choir has the perfect outlet for all that creative energy. 

This July, the Luminescence Children’s Choir Winter Holiday Program is taking over the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture in Barton for a week of music-making, creativity and friendship. 

Designed for children aged 7 to 12, the program is open to young singers of all abilities, with no audition required. 

Not Your Average Choir Practice 

Forget the stiff school hall rehearsals you might remember. This program is led by acclaimed composer and pianist Sally Whitwell and Luminescence Chamber Singers’ own bass-baritone Alasdair Stretch, bringing together high-quality music education with games, play and creative exploration. 

Across five days, young singers will explore their voices, learn new songs, build confidence and discover the joy of singing together. 

Participants will also hear from guest artists, including members of the Luminescence Chamber Singers, making it a proper introduction to the world of choral music. 

The Grand Finale 

On the final afternoon, the group will share what they’ve been working on in a showcase for family and friends. 

Featuring music by local Canberra composers, the free performance is a chance to celebrate five days of learning, creativity and singing together. 

It’s a lovely way for young singers to build confidence, make new friends and experience the magic of performing as a group. 

Meet the Luminescence Children’s Choir 

Separate to the holiday program, the Luminescence Children’s Choir is a performance ensemble for singers aged 10 to 17.  

Led by artistic director AJ America and composer/pianist Sally Whitwell, the choir has quickly established itself as one of Canberra’s leading programs for young singers and musicians, with performances in Canberra and tours to Hobart, Melbourne, Wollongong and Sydney.

Dates/Times: Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July, 9am to 3pm daily 

Ticketing/Booking: $420 for the week. Optional afternoon program is an additional $20 per day. A 10% sibling discount is available for families with multiple singers enrolled.
