National Science Week: Rainbows in Science LGBTQ+ event

Keen for an evening of rainbow science, meeting LGBTQ+ scientists from ANU and beyond, and free food? Young, emerging and aspiring LGBTQ+ scientists (16 – 25yrs) are invited to an evening of colourful STEMonstrations from a variety of science disciplines (earth sciences, environmental sciences, biology, physics, and medicine), followed by a keynote speech from Bry the Fly Guy, and music and hangs with LGBTQ+ scientists and allies from across ANU.

STEMonstrations will be delivered by fellow LGBTQIA+ community and allies, and are designed to show how diversity in science influences people’s lives and the world around them. The hands-on STEMonstration session (4:00 – 5:30pm) will be followed by a keynote speech from Bry the Fly Guy and networking event with light refreshments (5:45 – 8:00pm).

For accessibility, there will be AUSLAN translators available for the evening. In the event of COVID cancellation, the keynote and networking will be moved to Zoom. Participants get cute merch, an excellent time, and an opportunity to really feel that there is a place for LGBTQ+ people not just in science departments, but in the science of the world itself.
