Floresco in the Gardens is as delightful as the name suggests. Sitting in the picturesque Australian National Botanic Gardens, the scenery is to die for on a sunny day, as is the food.

Greeted by the friendly floor team, we were shown to a table outside on the deck looking over the green, luscious lawns of the gardens. The sun was beaming and there was not a cloud in sight amongst the clear blue sky – perfect!

The first dish served to us was the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and native mountain pepper hollandaise. The eggs were sitting on an English muffin and the hollandaise was drizzled over the top. For someone who is a big breakfast fan, I have never tasted hollandaise sauce as good as this. It was buttery, yet had a bite of pepper to it and complemented the salmon and eggs perfectly.

While we waited for the second dish, we took in our surroundings. There really is something special about dining in a beautiful spot that encompasses nature and tranqulity. The thing we noticed about the menu at Floresco in the Gardens was the way they featured Australian native flora with traditional culinary staples. The menu is uniquely Australian and is evident in the food and the way it is presented.

The second dish was presented to us and made my mouth water instantly. The grilled chicken burger breast fillet with sautéed onions, Illawarra plum spiced relish and chips looked delicious. The marinated chicken breast was tender and juicy and there was a sweet chilli aioli on top that gave it a nice little kick.

The chef, David Lockwood is passionate about the menu and knows that consistency with food is the most important thing.

I will definitely be going back, whether it is for breakfast, lunch or just a coffee, Floresco in the Gardens has my vote.
