Sydney six-piece jazz band, Chasing the Moon, is bringing an evening of European and Latin jazz to Smith’s Alternative on Saturday 11 July.
Blending gypsy swing, folk, blues and Latin rhythms, the band promises the kind of warm, lively performance made for a cold Canberra night.
A Musical Trip Through Europe
This gig will transport you straight to a cobblestone street corner in Paris or a lively European village square.
Led by Kathy Bluff on vocals and violin alongside Paul Burjan on saxophone and flute, Chasing the Moon creates a rich, layered sound that moves from soulful and romantic to playful and energetic.
Accordion-Fueled WARMTH
Garry Steel’s accordion brings plenty of continental charm, weaving through the band’s swinging arrangements and helping give the music its distinctive character.
He’s joined by guitarist John Blenkhorn, double bassist Merv Sequiera and drummer Mike Quigley, creating a tight acoustic sound that should make it difficult to keep your feet still.
Expect joyful melodies, strong musicianship and a generous dose of old-world atmosphere.
Civic’s Ultimate Living Room
Smith’s Alternative remains one of Civic’s most relaxed and eclectic live music venues.
It’s the kind of place where you can grab a drink, settle in close to the stage and shake off the working week with something a little different.
Tickets are already on sale.
