Two Canberra institutions and neighbours in Braddon, BentSpoke Brewing Co. and Italian & Sons have come together to create a new collaboration beer. Made using Italian & Son’s unique pizza dough starter to create a refreshing pizza fermented Pale Ale, ‘Regina’ is the new must-try beer to come out of the brewery.

Translating to ‘Queen’ in Italian, Regina is named after Queen Margarite and her name’s sake Margherita pizza. Made with the same pizza dough starter co-owner Pasquale Trimboli has been using since Italian & Sons opened in 2009 with a touch of oregano, the flavour combinations have produced a crisp and slightly herbal beer that the team says pairs well with a heart-warming meal.

“It’s a delicious take on pizza in a beer, and the Italian & Sons sourdough starter has given us some great yeast like characters within the beer,” says BentSpoke Head Brewer and Co-Founder, Richard Watkins.

“I am so thrilled with this collaboration. We have brought two Canberra hospitality brands into one exciting new product, and I couldn’t be prouder. The beer is such a great, and delicious way to showcase the best taste of Canberra – and we can now share it across Australia. When we brainstormed with [BentSpoke] about how we could create the perfect pizza beer, our tastebuds literally went off the charts and the concept for Regina was born,” says Italian & Sons Co-Owner, Pasquale Trimboli.

From today, the brew will be released in cans with an eye-catching yellow design, featuring Queen Margherita herself and will be available in all bottle shops on Australia’s East Coast and on tap at the BentSpoke BrewPub and Italian & Sons.
