Did you know that Adore Tea at Gold Creek host an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed Mad Hatter’s Tea Party every Sunday between 11am and 4pm?

Mad Hatter’s is all about stepping into a new world straight out of the famed fairy tale by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (a.k.a. Lewis Carroll). One entire side of the tea house is dedicated to Mad Hatters, with themed decor such as red carpet and a mini door. A large selection of tea, mouth-watering savouries and delicious sweets & treats are available for guests to enjoy.

Andrea Seselja had been designing jewellery in Canberra based on the form of the tentacle and mythology of the Kraken, the legendary sea monster of giant proportions said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. The notion of a terrifying creature lying unnoticed in the ocean depths is an influence.

Although beautiful, it was near impossible to produce the pieces on any production scale. Then Baxter came on board. Percival Luto’s ‘Kraken’ range was released a year later and is now set to show at FASHFEST 2014.

The Sentinels Project by Artist Hamish Ta-mé

The Sentinels Project is an installation exhibition made up of large format portraits and video to be held at East Hotel until May 28th. The Project is an ongoing series looking at public power, female strength and the ability of communities to engage with evil in their midst.

Traditionally shown illegally pasted up under bridges and down dark alleyways the series evolved from work that artist Hamish Ta-mé was doing with a guerrilla Artists Run Initiative that he founded in 2005.

Flickerfest 2014

If Tropfest is Australia’s Biggest Film Festival, in many ways Flickerfest can be considered the best. It is one of only a few Oscar Accredited festivals in Australia, so this means the shorts on show can be nominated for an Academy Award if they succeed at this stage in the process. With this in mind, there was high expectations for the calibre of films to be showcased as the Flickerfest tour hit Canberra last Thursday.
