If you regularly tune into The Rest Is Politics podcast, you’ll know Alastair Campbell doesn’t pull his punches when it comes to the state of global politics.
The writer, podcaster and former adviser to British Prime Minister Tony Blair is coming to Canberra Theatre on Monday 23 November for a conversation about his time inside Downing Street and the political forces shaping democracies today.
A front-row seat to POLITICAL history
Campbell spent years at the centre of British politics, first as Blair’s press secretary before becoming Director of Communications and Strategy.
During his time in government, he worked through major events including the Good Friday Agreement, the Kosovo conflict and the Iraq war, giving him a close-up view of how government, politics and the media operate behind the scenes.
He has since turned that experience into books, speaking tours and The Rest Is Politics, the podcast he co-hosts with former Conservative politician Rory Stewart.
Politics behind closed doors
Joined in conversation by Australian political commentator Mark Kenny, Campbell will unpack some of the forces shaping modern democracies.
The pair will discuss the rise of authoritarian leaders, culture wars, social media, AI and changing levels of public trust.
Expect a candid, sharp evening filled with behind-the-scenes stories from Campbell’s years inside government and plenty of insight into how political decisions are made and communicated.
