Alliance Française de Canberra’s annual Beaujolais night is back on Thursday 19 November, bringing French wine, cheese and live jazz to Turner for a midweek evening out.
From 6pm to 8.30pm, the Alliance Française’s McCaughey Street home becomes a tasting room for the night. You’ll get four wines from M. Chapoutier, two plates of cheese and charcuterie, and live jazz throughout the evening.
The date fits the occasion too. The third Thursday of November marks the release of Beaujolais Nouveau in France. “Nouveau” simply means “new”, it’s a young red wine released soon after the grapes are picked, known for being light, fresh and easy to drink.
What’s in the Glass
The tasting list has one white and three reds:
- Bourgogne Chardonnay (white)
- Morgon Côte du Py (red)
- Coteaux Bourguignons (red)
- Juliénas Les Capitans (red)
The wines being poured show a few different sides of the region, with reds from Morgon and Juliénas that are generally richer and more structured than Beaujolais Nouveau.
They come from M. Chapoutier, a French winemaking family with roots in the Rhône Valley stretching back to 1808, now in its seventh generation under Michel Chapoutier.
Food, Music and a Bottle for the Road
