Bunda Street has a new spot for dinner and drinks with a view.
Oh My Papa opened on Friday 16 October at the Canberra Centre, bringing a vibrant two-level modern Asian restaurant to the city.
You’ll find it on Level 1 next to Kingpin, with a share-style menu, Asian-inspired cocktails and an upstairs rooftop bar overlooking the city.
From Newcastle to Canberra
Oh My Papa first opened in Newcastle’s East End, where it has built a following for delicious modern Asian food, cocktails and a lively atmosphere.
Now the team has expanded to Canberra, bringing the same approach with a share-style menu inspired by flavours from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and China, all given a modern fusion twist.
What to order
Go with a group and order a few things to share. The chicken yakitori and Korean karaage chicken bao buns are a great place to start, and the caramelised sticky pork belly brings twice-cooked pork together with a salty-sweet caramel sauce and Asian coleslaw.
If you’re after something more substantial, there’s a slow-cooked massaman lamb shank with sweet potato, grilled pineapple, cashews and pickles. You’ll also find everything from wagyu beef rendang and prawn noodles to dumplings, skewers and curries on the menu.
Up on the roof
The space is bold in the best way, with graffiti artwork, plenty of colour and a playful feel that carries from the dining room upstairs.
The rooftop bar is likely to get plenty of use as the weather warms up. Grab one of the Asian-inspired cocktails, settle in and take in the city views, with wine and beer also on the menu.
It works for a quick drink after work, but you may end up staying for dinner.
