The National Film and Sound Archive is bringing a new season of cinema to Acton, with its Spring Film Series taking over Arc Cinema from 1 September to 30 November.
Built around the elements of earth, water, fire and air, the program brings together restored Australian classics, cult favourites, international cinema, animation, thrillers and big-screen crowd-pleasers.
A Proper Cinema Night
Tucked inside the heritage Art Deco building of the NFSA, Arc Cinema gives films the kind of setting they deserve.
The space is intimate, comfortable and built for focused viewing, with the option to grab a drink before the lights go down. For anyone who likes seeing films in a proper cinema, rather than half-watching something at home, or dealing with screaming kids and sticky floors, it’s time to make the trip to Acton.
Get In Your Element
The Spring Film Series is shaped around the natural elements, which gives the program plenty of range.
For water, films include The Chronology of Water, Chinatown and Dead Calm. For fire, the line-up includes Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, The Day the Earth Caught Fire and There Will Be Blood. For earth, look out for Signatures of Earth, The Quake and Mountain + River. And for air, there’s Twister, Up and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

It is a broad program, but an easy one to find your way into. Whether you’re after a restored Australian classic, a cult favourite, a sing-along or something you’ve always wanted to see on the big screen, the Spring Film Series gives you plenty of reasons to get back to Arc Cinema.
