We’re agonisingly close to spring, but before we retire the thermals and puffer jackets, there’s one more late-winter outing worth putting on the calendar.

This Saturday, Ginninderry is throwing a community festival at The Link in Strathnairn from 2pm to 7pm, bringing together free rides, live music, local food, market stalls and a very special appearance from rugby league legend Mal Meninga.

Come Hungry

Let’s be honest, the food at these things is usually half the reason to go, and thankfully, the festival is pulling together some of the region’s best food trucks, from slow-cooked meats to a wide assortment of sweet treats.

A lot of it is made for eating on the move, so grab something hot, take a lap through the stalls and see where the afternoon takes you.

There’s also a pop-up bar area if you fancy a cold local brew or a glass of wine while you soak up the afternoon sun.

Music, Markets, and Local Makers

Once you’ve got food sorted, there’s plenty more to browse.

Local musicians will be soundtracking the afternoon, while the markets bring together makers, small businesses and local stallholders. It’s a good chance to pick up something handmade, from ceramics to regional treats.

Strathnairn Arts will also be opening its studios, giving you the chance to wander through and see local artists at work.

Rides, Games and a Raiders Legend

Families are well covered too, with free rides, face painting, roving performers, games and activities running throughout the afternoon.

There will also be a bicycle repair station offering free basic tune-ups, which is very handy if your bike has been making a strange noise lately.

And from 3pm, Raiders legend Mal Meninga will be making an appearance. Yes, that Mal Meninga. So, if you’ve got any interest in rugby league, this isn’t one to miss.

Before You Head Out

Because the festival runs into the evening, we recommend bringing a few layers as the temperature will drop the second the sun dips.

Parking can get tight when everyone arrives at once, so carpool with your mates or grab an Uber if you’re planning to visit the bar.

Once you’re there, the rest is easy: grab something to eat, wander the markets, catch some music and enjoy one last proper winter outing before spring starts.
