Plenty of Canberrans have made the weekend dash down Federal Highway with baked goods on their minds. Think flaky pastries, buttery croissants, a proper loaf of sourdough and maybe a pie for the drive home.

It’s a Canberra rite of passage.

But come September, the drive is getting a whole lot shorter. Little Sutton Bakehouse is officially opening a second location in Deakin.

From Sutton with love

The new outpost is sure to make the morning routine a little easier for anyone who has ever tried to justify a bakery run across the border before 9am.

And if you’re worried the Little Sutton Bakehouse magic might get lost in transit, don’t be. The main baking will still happen at the original Sutton ovens, with fresh loaves, pastries and country-style cakes delivered to Deakin every morning through a system the team is calling ‘Dough on the Daily’.

Same great pastries, less petrol money required.

Sandwiches, pies, and proper butter

Co-owners Omar Muscat and Daniel Sparrow, who already keep the suburb well-caffeinated at sister venue Doubleshot, aren’t just copy-pasting the original bakery. Alongside their signature sourdough, gourmet pies, buttery croissants and country-style cakes, the Deakin outpost is introducing a new lunch offering. Think house-made olive oil focaccia sliced open and stuffed with seasonal, local ingredients for the ultimate midday sandwich.

The team is also keeping their partnership with Pepe Saya front and centre. Customers will be able to pick up cultured butter, milk and lemon curd to take home, for something more boujee than just peanut butter on your morning toast.

Summer night sourdough pizzas

While the first priority is making it easier to grab a morning coffee, pastry and loaf of sourdough, the team has bigger plans once the weather warms up.

Little Sutton Deakin is set to roll out the bakery’s much-loved sourdough pizza nights, bringing a relaxed evening energy to the local shops.
