A Hidden Rooftop Reggae Party Is Coming to Civic

Everyone loves a hidden gem, but ‘Blank Cultural Platform’ are taking it to the next level. 

Perched above King O’Malley’s in Civic, the independent arts space is hosting Rooftop Roots & Reggae – Winter Edition this Saturday, bringing deep basslines, live horns, DJs and open-air rooftop energy to the middle of the city. 

 

The Heavy Hitters 

‘This Way Orkestra’ is headlining the night with their signature blend of reggae, dub, afrobeat, jazz and cinematic grooves. If you’ve caught them live around town, you’ll know the horn section does not come quietly. 

Joining them are local favourites ‘Kopasetic’, bringing earthy roots, reggae, folk and soul rhythms, alongside ‘Agency Dub Collective’, pioneers of Australia’s live dub-reggae movement and specialists in heavyweight low-end pressure.

 

Between the live sets, DJs will keep the energy up with roots reggae, dub, dancehall, steppers and global bass. 

 

How Do You Get There? 

This is where the adventure starts. Don’t just wander into King O’Malley’s clutching your ticket and looking confused. To find the event, head to the Mort Street side of the building, near Platform 8 at the Civic bus interchange. Look for the door with the ‘Blank’ venue sign, step into the mini-lobby and head up the stairs. After two flights, you’ll find a door with “KNOCK” written on it. Do exactly that, and you’re in. 

 

The Setup 

Because it’s an open-air rooftop in the middle of winter, the crew has gone all out to keep things cozy. Expect heaters, warm drinks, and a sound system that will literally vibrate the chill right out of you.  The event is a quick walk from the Alinga Street light rail stop and the Canberra Centre car park, so leaving the car at home is an easy option.
