Canberra’s fitness community is gearing up for a high-octane morning as Endorphin Hybrid Racing readies to launch at the Kingston Foreshore on April 18. The race has been designed for contestants to enter as pairs and test their engine, strength, and communication.

Set against the backdrop of Walt & Burley, the event creates a high-standard race environment where athletes, from everyday gym-goers to advanced competitors, can push their limits in a fast-paced, functional format.

The Format: One Work, One Rest

The beauty of the “Pairs” format is the strategy involved. While one teammate is in the “pain cave” the other recovers or plans the next move.

  • Team Dynamics: Teams of two (Male/Male, Female/Female, or Mixed) work through a linear course.
  • Workload Distribution: For all machines and functional stations, partners adopt a “one work, one rest” approach. You can divide the reps and calories however you see fit, but only one athlete can be moving at a time.
  • The Together Finish: While you can split the work at the stations, the final 400m sprint to the finish line must be completed side-by-side to stop the clock.

The Program: What to Expect

The race is a grind of endurance and power. Athletes will need to navigate a series of stations in order:

Station  Movement/Exercise
1  Assault Runner
2  Dual Dumbell Thrusters
3  Ski Erg
4  Medecine Ball Carry
5  Bike Erg
6  Box Jump Over, Step Down
7  Row Erg
8  The Finish

Endorphin has structured the event to be inclusive of all fitness levels. The Peak category has been designed for experienced athletes. Expect heavier prescribed loads and strict movement standards aimed at those looking to race at a high intensity. Whilst the Vibe category is perfect for regular gym members who want to experience the buzz of competition. The loading is more accessible, and the environment is highly supportive.

It is worth noting that athlete check-in is required 60 minutes before the allocated heat time. Spectators are welcome and encouraged to grab a coffee fand cheer on the teams.
