One of Canberra’s most beloved dining hubs is preparing to turn into a world of imagination. From April 7 to 11, Verity Lane Market will host The Lost Wonders of the City, a free, week-long residency designed to bring families together through discovery, performance, and play.
Part of the broader Wonderful World Festival, this transformation turns the historic laneway and food hall into an interactive playground. You’ll find yourself swept up in a nightly program where the line between “diner” and “participant” disappears.
Nightly Curiosities and Spontaneous Spectacles
The beauty of The Lost Wonders lies in its “drop-in” nature as the entertainment finds you while you eat and explore. Things to look out for include:
- Roaming performers weaving through the tables. From sleight-of-hand magic and juggling to hula-hoop artistry, these short, high-energy bursts of wonder happen right before your eyes.
- A live musician taking audience requests and heartfelt dedications, turning the evening into a shared soundtrack of nostalgic throwbacks and family favorites.
- “Family Feud” style interactive rounds. It’s table-vs-table competition where collaboration is the only way to win.
Trivia, Bingo, and Furry Friends
While the atmosphere is electric every night, there are a few standout sessions that shouldn’t be missed:
- Pub Trivia with a Twist: A lively, multi-generational trivia night where the kids have just as much chance of winning as the adults. Expect questions ranging from 90s cartoons to modern classics.
- The Living Garden (Saturday): On Saturday afternoon, the laneway slows down. A supervised petting zoo will be set up, allowing children (and overwhelmed adults) to connect with animals in a gentle, welcoming outdoor space.
- Music Bingo Finale: Closing out the week on Saturday night is a high-energy twist on the classic game. Listen for the tracks, mark your card, and prepare for a room-wide singalong.
