Canberra’s most beloved winter festival is back, and this year it’s bringing a brand-new lakeside location and even more winter wonder than ever before. Running from the 3-6 July, the Christmas in July Festival has found a new home at Patrick White Terrace, bringing festive cheer to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

Set against the stunning waterfront backdrop, the event transforms into a European-style winter village with wooden chalets, fairy lights, snow-dusted pathways, and over 40 real pine trees.

“Relocating the event to the lakefront allows us to create something even more beautiful and immersive,” says Festival Director Vincent Hernandez. “It’s about warmth, joy, and bringing people together in the heart of winter.”

Expect more than 20 pop-up restaurants dishing out melted raclette, schnitzels, fondue, waffles and more, alongside artisan stalls filled with candles, ceramics, preserves and winter fashion. The Hot Chocolate Stations and Mulled Wine Bars return in full force – complete with whipped cream, toasted marshmallows and spiced seasonal flavours.

One of the highlights has to be the glowing Fire Pit Garden, a communal space to sip, snack and soak in the wintery vibes. Plus, roaming performers, snow-filled moments, and family-friendly fun make this a must-attend for all ages.

“In the northern hemisphere, Christmas is all about celebrating the beauty of winter, gathering with loved ones, and enjoying music under sparkling lights,” says Hernandez. “It’s wonderful to see Australians embrace that same spirit right here in Canberra.”

Whether you’re a foodie, a snow lover or just here for the festive cheer, Christmas in July at its new lakeside home is set to be Canberra’s ultimate winter experience – and best of all, entry is free.
