From real-estate to National attractions and even our food, wine and coffee, Canberra is hot property – and not just because it’s 39 degrees all week! We may be bias, undeniable Canberra advocates, but there is no denying that there are new venues, new people, cool things to do and places to see popping up left right and centre. And, if you’ve had a chance to look over to the north, you may have noticed Belconnen is getting a new hotel!

A new-build Mercure Hotel (Operated by Australia’s largest hotel group, Accor) will be will be the first thing on our agenda in 2020. The five-storey, 125 room, Hotel is currently under development at the Canberra Labor Club precinct on Cameron Avenue, and is expected to open late January.

The location boasts prime positioning in the town centre of Belconnen, just 8km from the Canberra CBD, a short stroll from Westfield Belconnen, government offices and the Belconnen business district, Calvary Hospital, University of Canberra, as well as the AIS and GIO Stadium.

The midscale hotel will adjoin the Club’s precinct, accessible via a connecting walkway. Hotel guests can enjoy the entertainment facilities within the club, including its bar, bistro café, TAB and gaming room; and vice versa where the Canberra Labor Club guests will have access to easy accommodation.

Simon McGrath, Accor Pacific’s Chief Operating Officer says, “All eyes are on the nation’s capital at the moment, which is experiencing a renewed interest amongst investors and developers.

“We enjoy partnering with clubs and adding an accommodation offering to their already successful business, by enhancing the existing club’s facilities to benefit members as well as new business and leisure guests.

“We are confident that the Mercure hotel will provide much-needed new hotel supply for Canberra,” concluded,” Mr McGrath.

With newly appointed accommodation and entertainment at their doorstep, the Belconnen precinct will undoubtedly be bustling, offering locals a vibrant place to visit away from the city. Designed by May + Russell Architects, the hotel design draws inspiration from the local environment.

For interstate or international visitors, the transport Canberra bus network is located at the hotel’s doorstep offering easy access to Canberra’s famous cultural attractions, and just a short 20-minute drive from Canberra Airport.

As for the guest rooms, expect sophistication, plush beds, relaxed workstations, Smart TVs, Chromecast and complimentary Wi-Fi. Mercure Belconnen will also feature gym facilities, laundry facilities, a spacious lobby lounge, food and beverage outlets, event and conferencing spaces and onsite parking.
