The Rutherglen wine region has a very rich history. It all started sometime in the 1840s when Lindsay Brown selected a plot of land for the first four acres of what would become one of Australia’s best-known wine regions.
‘Dig gentleman dig, but no deeper than six inches, for there is more gold to be won from the top six inches than from all of the depths below.’
These words are credited to Mr Brown, and certainly ring true of the treasures that have emerged from the fertile soils of the Rutherglen region. Now, Canberrans have the opportunity to explore the delights of both Rutherglen and King Valley with the Tastes of Two Regions showcase early in July.
To be held at the award-winning QT Hotel, it’s hard to think of a better place for such an affair. With the wines and produce of these amazing regions, this will indeed be a foodie’s delight.
If you’re in doubt, take the word of Channel 10’s Masterchef. The show recently explored the King Valley and challenged contestants to create an Italian Feast. The episode is a mouth-watering preview of what can be expected at next month’s showcase.
There are so many highlights that it’s difficult to know where to begin! Anyone who has wandered through the regions will be well aware of the high quality of these products. The cheeses are amazing and the olives are to die for… but there is so much more to try including tapenades, cakes, pestos, preserves and other delicious condiments.
There will be more than 100 wines on tasting. Sample the King Valley‘s Italian favourites in their Australian home, sparkling prosecco, pinot grigio, arnies, barbera, sangiovese, and nebbiolo. Also Rutherglen‘s innovative sparkling shiraz, flavourful and long lived riesling, marsanne and chardonnay, and impressive shiraz and the iconic durif.
