Canberra is a cultural melting pot of tastes. From Chinese to Italian, variations of Thai, burgers and hot dogs, food that is fast, food that is slow and food that is both (like Slow Noodle Fast) there is something to satisfy any hunger craving. Those with a desire for burritos will not be disappointed with the selection Canberra has to offer. Here are five of the best.

For dinner or a lazy weekend lunch, head to Kingston for the food and the ambience and maybe bring a like-minded friend. Little Brooklyn is a nice combination of bar and restaurant with a menu that transcends regular pub food. For instance, a deconstructed presentation of fried chicken, the required amount of greenery, a dollop of heavenly sauce and soft tortilla’s will delight both the eyes and the stomach once eaten together.

Mad Mex, in the City and Belconnen is a small place with a large Mexican wrestler’s face emblazons the wall and the colour code is reminiscent of a jungle – all red, green and timber. Burritos are made quick and for those who prefer theirs without a tortilla they might like a Naked Burrito, served salad style, in a bowl. Bought in conjunction with a cola and lime, any of Mad Mex’s burritos make a wonderful lunch stop.

The Beach Burrito Company brings a little bit of coastal attitude to Canberra’s CBD. Menus in buckets, long wooden tables and skull stickers wearing sombreros make for a casual style; a perfect ambience to sit down and relax in the middle of a bustling day. This is a restaurant to spend some time, have a drink and eat one of the delicious and almost-too-big burritos that come out wrapped up like silver bon-bons.

Just a little way off, on another side of the City Centre, Guzman Y Gomez also makes scrumptious burritos. From Chicken Guerrero to Steak Chipotle, Barramundi Mojo de Ajo (barramundi in garlic sauce) and the Farm Fresh Vegetables Burrito there are many choices for many tastes. They can be made into big or small burritos (for those with smaller stomachs) wrapped up to be eaten on the go or enjoyed on the spot.

Zambrero is Canberra’s very own highly charitable Mexican food establishment.
As customers choose from meats, rice and fillings they are contributing to another person’s meal with Zambrero’s ‘Plate 4 Plate’ program, which was created to feed those who are less fortunate. Zambrero offers nachos and tacos as well as burritos and is open well into the night for those after dinner hunger pains. The brand has branched out from the nations capital but it was started right here, opening its first store in Braddon in 2005.

The array of burritos and other Mexican food will suit many moods, many budgets and many situations. The best way to find out which is the most suitable is to try them all!
