Hands up, who wants to be Shrek?

Free-Rain Theatre Company has called for expressions of interest for the titular role of Dreamworks’ favourite ogre in Shrek The Musical.  They’re seeking a Canberran with high baritone – and an interest in green – to play the fairytale lead, while the roles of Donkey and Fiona are also up for grabs.

The creative time behind Shrek The Musical is musical director Nicholas Griffin, choreographer Michelle Heine, conductor Ian McLean and director Ylaria Rogers, who told Canberra Times the Shrek they are looking for will need “charisma”, “the ability to nail a Scottish accent” and be a “master farter and belcher”.

“We need someone who can belt out a tune…who’s not afraid to let it all out, Broadway style,” Ylaria said.

The director said they had received fifty expressions of interest in the role already – so if Shrek is on your bucketlist, check out Free-Rain Theatre Company here.

Shrek the Musical will be on at The Q in the October 2018 school holidays.
