Canberra music continues to go from strength-to-strength. While local bands continue to gain national coverage, the best news this week surrounds local darlings, SAFIA.

Not satisfied with Listen to Soul, Listen to BLUES reaching Number 76 in last year’s Hottest 100, Ben, Michael and Harry released their latest tune Paranoia, Ghosts & Other Sounds as a free download, stirring up plenty of attention gaining widespread acclaim.

Triple J picked it up almost immediately. Zan Rowe made it her Catch of the Day on 27 March, saying, “It’s so wonderful when a promise is fulfilled. SAFIA’s next moment of pretty is my Catch of the Day today! Stream it for yourself and swoon…”

Great news, huh? That wasn’t enough though…

While still working through national shows supporting Elizabeth Rose and promoting Listen to Soul, Listen to Blues, it was time for another announcement. On Friday, we learned that SAFIA would be supporting none-other than Lorde as the Kiwi wünderkind makes her way around capital cities (though, sadly, not in Canberra) through the end of April and early May.

Two of the shows have already sold out.

Finally, The Music Network lists Paranoia, Ghosts & Other Sounds as their Triple J ‘Pick of the Week’. Nick Findlay, the Triple J Music Librarian who provides the selection for The Music Network heaped praise on the release:

“Multiple layers of warm, bubbly, cinematic house music, coupled with front-man Benjamin Joseph’s buttery vocals, takes you on a celestial journey that’ll soon have you playing this song on repeat.”

This endorsement is a great way to round off a big month for SAFIA – one well deserved. With a collection of singles of significant quality to already get the attention of some of music’s best and most influential, we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for SAFIA.
