Late night hunger is a serious (first world) problem. After a big night ‘on the town’, nothing is worse than craving something deep-fried and knowing that you have no food in the pantry that will make the cut.

Luckily, there are a few places in Canberra which cater to those in need of a midnight-meal. Here are some of my ‘go-to’s:

Polit Bar
Upstairs from Westpac on Franklin Street, Manuka

Polit Bar is your place to relax, chat, drink and eat. Open until 2.00am (and sometimes longer) on Fridays and Saturdays, having a bite to eat at Polit might just be one of the best ways to finish a night out. Polit is a relaxed space with a hint of Melbourne wine bar style – cosy with loads of charm and great music playing in the background!

Brodburger
Kingston Foreshore, next to The Glassworks

I would go so far as to say that Brodburger is the original and unofficially-official meeting spot for late night eaters. It’s incredible to think that one of Canberra’s proudest assets started out as a small food truck on the lakes edge.

Even though the location changed (you can now find it next to Canberra Glassworks on Wentworth Avenue) the burgers are still made with the same enthusiasm and affection that people fell in love with all those years ago.

Just a word to the wise: Brodburger is certainly not ‘fast food’, but it is worth the wait!

Broddog
Coming Soon to Lonsdale Streeet, Braddon

I like to think of Broddog as the Danni Minogue of the restaurant world – following in the same path of its older sibling, but still showing a unique personality, making a name for itself and ultimately gaining its own popularity.

After two-and-a-half years, the little red van found a temporary home, with ‘Broddog’ opening in Belconnen. A smart move location-wise, as people from the north side had easy access to a little bit of the brilliance that is ‘brod’. Stay tuned for the new venture at The Hamlet Garage in the old Braddon Beaurepaires site.

Monster Kitchen
Hotel-Hotel Foyer, New Acton

A monster has settled itself in the ground floor of Hotel Hotel… a Monster Bar that is! Located in NewActon, Monster is open from 6.30am, with a bar menu that runs until 1.00am, every day. Monster is the perfect place for late-night eaters, especially if you come out of a movie at Palace Cinemas at 10.30pm and are feeling a little peckish!
