Not so long ago it was very hard to find anywhere to eat in or around City West outside of work hours, however this has all changed since Hellenic Club in the City opened.

As the city counterpart to the well established Hellenic Club in Woden, Hellenic in the City prides itself on providing workers and city residents alike with delicious, generous-sized and affordable meals, with their most popular dish being anything from the char grill.

Diners have a choice of nine different types of steak, accompanied by a selection of sauces. Their speciality, the Souvlaki, is skewers of meat prepared with traditional Greek herbs and spices, and is the perfect alternative to the traditional T bone.

Head chef, Angelo Bourandanis, says the secret to why his steaks are so well-renowned in Canberra is due to his preparation and marination ritual. Each steak is marinated for four weeks and then rested for a further two weeks.

Bourandanis has been associated with the Hellenic Club for over 30 years and was bought out of retirement to help set up the new city premises. Two years later he is still there, in most part due to his enjoyment of cooking.

For those who are not fans of red meat, there are plenty of other options available. The lemon, oregano and garlic chicken is the real standout from their poultry offerings.

There are also seafood dishes including tempura fillets and salt and pepper squid, plus the traditional roast of the day makes an appearance on the menu.

The club also caters for busy morning city workers, opening for breakfast at 7:30am each business day. One of the most in demand breakfast specials is the ham, cheese and tomato croissant and coffee for only $5.50. There are also $9.90 lunch specials from Monday to Friday.

Hellenic in the City is the perfect spot for a lunchtime bite to eat, dinner with the family or for drinks after work or on the weekend. The friendly staff, scrumptious food and quick service perfectly compliment the relaxed atmosphere and shows why Hellenic in the City has fast become a popular City West venue.
