In 2016, “Gal-entine’s Day” (only the most important day of the year!) is on a Saturday, and I already have grand plans for a brunch that would make Leslie Knope proud. Until then, I’ve been looking around for some places to celebrate the year that was with my very best girlfriends. Here are my favourite picks around Canberra for a girly long lunch.

As You Like It

The Street Theatre caught my attention this year, and not just because of the many performances held there! ‘As You Like It’, located on the ground floor of the theatre has delicious burgers, gourmet sandwiches and an extensive wine list.

Fox and Bow

Fox and Bow is all about bringing the style of the city into the suburbs – and this little café tucked away at Farrer shops certainly achieves this. I love the quirky atmosphere, and the fact that there is an all-day brunch menu. The Foxed Waffles are highly recommended!

Ona on the Lawns

Ona on the Lawns has definitely secured its place in the hearts of Canberrans. Although it’s famous for its coffee, Ona on the Lawns also has a great menu. I recommend grabbing a table outside to enjoy the fantastic weather we’ve been having at the moment.

Doubleshot Café

Deakin’s Doubleshot Café has long been a favourite of mine. A menu that changes with the seasons; delicious smoothies, and of course great coffee, makes Doubleshot the perfect place for a girly brunch.

Cantina

Burritos? Check. Nachos? Check. Frozen Margheritas? Check. With these necessities checked off the list, Cantina (also known as ‘Beach Burrito’) has all the qualities of a great lunch spot. Located in the middle of Civic, Cantina really shines in the summertime.
I’d recommend going for a late lunch/early dinner, and definitely try and snag a table outside. That way you can watch the sun go down while chatting with your favourite gal pals while eating delicious Mexican food.
