The Mawson Club
The Citrus Café is one of those rare gems in suburban Canberra. It’s a casual and comfortable café that serves lunch and dinner seven days a week to a loyal clientele from the suburbs nearby. The customers range from young families through to seniors, yet no one has reason to feel out of place. Why? Because Citrus Café is nestled within the rather wonderful Mawson Club, one of the new breed of Canberra Licensed Clubs that places its focus squarely on the local community no matter what their age. Judging by the roaring trade being done most weeknights, it’s a winning strategy. Occupying a space almost immediately following the entry to the club, visiting Citrus Café does not require a visit to the bar or the gaming room. What it does require though, is an appetite as Chef Ravi is certainly not shy of loading up your plate. [2 left]The menu brings everything you could want to fill the belly of a hungry diner of any age. With categories for ‘Kids’ and ‘Seniors’. Naturally, they’re not excluded form other parts of the menu, but it shows a sense of consideration and thought about their offerings. The kids may even prefer some of the Chicken Satay skewers, provided you can tear them away from the adjoining glass-walled playroom. All the classics are present. Try the Bangers and Mash or perhaps a Stuffed Chicken Breast. If you feel like a treat the Pad Thai or the Grilled Salmon Fillet looks delicious. Meanwhile, the Specials board highlights some of the value offerings for the week, so if you’re keen for a cheap schnitzel, best you head down on a Wednesday! A large and dynamic space – Section 57 – is also available for functions. Whether a christening, wedding reception or major birthday, the team can make your next event very special. This simply adds to The Mawson Club’s commitment to not just being a club, but a place where Canberrans can feel comfortable to enjoy both quiet weeknights and major events among the company of family and friends. And that sounds like a recipe for success! Club opening hours: 9am to 4am every day Click here to read Citrus Café’s 2014 Dining Profile.
