Cholo's Restaurant

[1 right]Cholo’s in Dickson achieves something that few other restaurants in Canberra manage to do. They provide delicious food that showcases a culture in a space that makes you feel as though you are dining at a family table rather than in a formal setting. With the warm, rich flavours of Peruvian food in front of you, a classic pisco sour, and perhaps a glass of wine or beer sourced from Lima, it’s certainly easy to let yourself be wrapped up in the warmth of the Cholo’s family. From the drinks menu, there is the unmistakable Inca Cola, but also a new wine list that brings some of the very best of South America to the table. Featuring varietals not often seen in Australia – Chenin Blanc and Malbec as examples – the delicate structures provide a great contrast to bold and earthy Australian styles. [2 left]For those looking to enjoy the classic pisco sour, it’s made with panache at Cholo’s. We suggest you head in on Fridays for the $10.00 cocktail special and sample at least a few to get a feel for the hugely popular and other varieties of the South American classic. On the weekends, the Cholo’s family treat their customers to a few traditional favourites, and even feature a couple of alpaca dishes (including rich and sweet meatballs). We suggest leaving yourself in the hands of your hosts and simply enjoy the evening as they guide you through a gastronomic tour of Peru. There’s no reason to take a trip across the Pacific. Just head out to Dickson and enjoy the flavours, warmth and hospitality of Cholo’s restaurant. Click here to read Cholo’s latest dining profile.
