ANU is turning 80, and it’s marking the occasion with a student-driven outdoor concert built around a huge night of live music.

After Hours takes over campus on Saturday 17 October, bringing together national names, Canberra favourites and ANU student talent, headlined by Genesis Owusu.

Presented by ANU in partnership with ANUSA, the event is open to students, staff, alumni and the wider Canberra community.

The Lineup

The bill brings together some big Australian names alongside plenty of local talent.

  • Genesis Owusu — genre-bending powerhouse, bringing a famously high-energy live show.
  • Rum Jungle — surf-punk, psychedelic guitars and laid-back alt-rock.
  • Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers — the ARIA Award-winning indie-rock four-piece with strong Canberra roots.
  • Chloe Parche — rising singer-songwriter with Triple J support and a recent Like A Version under her belt.
  • Lamb Legz — ANU’s 12-member, two-time Big Night Out-winning student band bringing plenty of big-band energy.

A Full-Scale Campus Concert

The event is being treated as more than just another campus gig, with a professional outdoor stage, large-scale lighting and sound, food and drink vendors and exclusive merch helping turn it into a proper 80th birthday celebration.

ANU Interim Vice-Chancellor Professor Rebekah Brown said the concert is exactly the kind of moment the University wanted for its milestone year, while ANUSA President Charley Ellwood said the event puts students at the centre of the celebrations, adding that live music is “at the heart of what it means to have a proper university experience.”

With ANU marking eight decades since it was founded in 1946, AfterHours is a fitting way to celebrate the milestone. It’s also a rare chance to see national acts, Canberra favourites and ANU’s own emerging talent share the same stage.
