If your idea of a perfect Saturday night involves double-kick drums rattling your ribs and a cold tin in hand, clear your schedule.
This weekend, Belconnen’s undisputed home of heavy, The Baso, is hosting Metal Fiesta 2026. We aren’t talking about a polite local showcase here. This is a full-scale, dual-stage, ten-band marathon designed to leave your ears ringing well into Monday morning.
Whether you live down the road in Belco or you’re a Southsider who usually treats crossing the bridge like an international voyage, this massive lineup is worth the trip.
Two Stages, Ten Bands.
The sheer scale of this year’s fiesta is wild. Shananigans Entertainment has squeezed ten of the country’s most formidable heavy acts into one night, splitting them across two stages so the music barely stops.
Heading up the bill are Wollongong’s groove metal royalty, Segression. They are currently on the road celebrating an incredible 30 years of tearing up Australian stages. Expect a massive, career-spanning set packed with absolute anthems like “5th of the 5th” and “Painted in Blood.”
Joining them at the top of the poster are Melbourne’s chaotic kings Frankenbok, who are notorious for bringing the kind of high-energy, sweat-drenched madness that makes staying still physically impossible.
Something For Every Shade of Heavy
What makes Metal Fiesta a staple on the local calendar is how well it represents the broader heavy scene. This isn’t just one note.
You’ve got the industrial-tinged darkness of Our Last Enemy, the pure fuel-injected rock of Piston Fist, and the crushing, slow-burn doom of Futility. If you like your riffs fast and thrashy, Deprivation will do the trick, while Project Ultimate Satan is ready to unleash some blackened chaos for the true purists.
Rounding out the massive bill are Shockwave, Tensions Arise, and rising force Vitriarch. It’s a massive cross-section of the scene, all under one roof.
Lock It In
The Baso has always been the heartbeat of Canberra’s alternative scene, and nights like this are when the venue truly shines. Grab a pre-gig feed, get in early to support the opening acts, and prepare for a massive night of live music.
Early bird tickets are already flying, so don’t sleep on securing your spot in the pit.
