Let’s be honest, by the time August rolls around, most of us have officially checked out of the Canberra winter. But before you lock yourself indoors for the weekend, there is a very good reason to pull on your thickest puffer jacket and head over to the inner north.

Light Up Lyneham is returning to save us from the midwinter slump, transforming the local shops into a glowing, bustling block party.

The Main Event

The highlight of the night is the iconic sunset Lantern Walk. This isn’t just a casual stroll in the dark, either. The procession is led by a massive, brilliantly illuminated Canberra Mountain Lion, winding its way down to the Lyneham Wetlands and back. The wetlands look absolutely magic under the twilight glow, making it well worth braving the evening chill.

Tunes, Eats, and Local Treasures

If you need to keep your hands warm, there will be plenty of hot food stalls to choose from while you wander. The Brass Stage will be pumping out live music to keep the energy high, and the local shops will be surrounded by community market stalls and dazzling light installations. It is the perfect excuse to grab a hot drink, catch up with your neighbours, and remember why living in the capital during winter isn’t so bad after all.
