After months of wondering from passers-by, Tintino, a new wine bar and bottle shop tucked into Old Kingston has finally opened its doors. Blending retail, hospitality, and heart, Tintino is set to become your new local spot that you’ll keep coming back for.

Part wine store, part restaurant, Tintino is reimagining what a neighbourhood wine bar can be. It brings together a curated list of global wines, a full-flavour menu, and a sense of casual sophistication that feels instantly familiar but entirely fresh. Led by owner Ben Florance, hospitality veteran Adam Brown and Head Chef Brendan Hill (ex-Carlotta,Wilma), the team have considered every detail, from their signature rainbow trout in buttermilk, to hibachi-grilled lamb belly skewers, truffle toasties, and a wildly surprising take on the beloved potato gems.

Each dish is built with wine in mind, and dessert is no afterthought either, think toasted sourdough ice cream and chocolate terrine that reuse elements from the savoury menu to minimise waste.

“We’ve designed the menu around the wine, but made sure the food can hold its own,” says Brendan Hill. “It’s about curiosity, comfort, and having a bit of fun along the way.”

And while the food is bold and confident, the vibe is anything but fussy. Tintino’s retail-meets-dining model invites guests to browse the curated wine shelves, sit down for a snack, or settle in for the night. The wine list blends natural and classic styles, offering by-the-glass pours and plenty of opportunities to explore unexpected regions.

“The vision was always to create a place where you can pop in for a bottle, stay for a snack, or discover something new. Our motto is “take a seat, or take it home”, encouraging our customers to choose how they want to enjoy the wines on offer. Whatever we do, it’s always in service of the wine, and for the people who love it.” Says Ben Florance.

The space is warm and tactile, with original brushbox floors, heritage-inspired joinery, and a fully open kitchen designed for connection. Seating ranges from high bars to window stools and a chef’s counter where guests can chat to the crew as dishes come together.

With the bottle shop open seven days, and the restaurant trading Wednesday to Sunday, including “Sunday Mass” sessions with a more casual menu, DJs, and an open invitation to settle in for the entire afternoon. Looking ahead, Tintino will expand into a wine club, curated wine packs, and bespoke private cellar services designed for collectors, corporates, and everyday enthusiasts.

You’ll find Tintino in the heart of Old Kingston as a wine-first neighbourhood bar and bottle shop at Unit 4/11 Kennedy St.
