The new and improved Gus’ Place has opened its iconic mahogany doors once again.
The space boasts a fancy new fit out, while still paying tribute to its admired predecessor. “The city has been crying out for a revamp of Gus’ and we’re excited to start setting our own history in the space”, says new owner Fish Zafar.
With a history of 50-years, Gus’ has been an institution in Canberra’s café scene, playing a significant role in the cultural development of the city, being the first café in Canberra to accommodate outdoor dining back in the ‘70s.
The revamp features quality materials like teak, marble and brass, while keeping with the classic European feel of the original space. The outdoor area features huge glass windows that allow sunlight to pour into the cafe, making Gus’ a great place to catch up over a meal.
The new menu offers classic seasonal options with a Gus’ twist. “We aren’t trying to reinvent classic dishes, but rather elevate them so they hit all the senses!” says Zafar. The menu caters for a variety of allergies and dietary preferences including gluten, dairy, vegetarian and vegan. Gus’ Place is also fully licensed, with a selection of local beer and wine on offer.
The house-blend coffee is custom roasted for Gus’ Place by their supplier, and is available to purchase in store. A variety of single-origin, seasonal blends and cold brews are also on offer.
To top it all off, Gus’ Place has reintroduced good old-fashioned quality service, with their team of friendly front-of-house staff taking your orders with a smile.
Gus’ Place is open 7:30am-4pm, 7 days a week, for breakfast and lunch. And is now open for dinner from 5.30pm-9pm Monday-Thursday, 5.30pm-10pm Friday and Saturday, and closed Sunday night. Whether it’s a quick meeting over coffee, brunch with a close friend, or dinner after work, Gus’ Place is the perfect spot to meet.
