Corner pubs are a rare treat in Canberra. Ducks Nuts, located in the heart of Dickson, is one of the few, and uses more than its great location to fulfil the promise of a great ‘local’.
Upon entering from busy Woolley Street, guests are met by the expansive bar and warm smiles. The second thing you’ll notice is the clever arrangement of furniture that easily handles large groups or more intimate gatherings.
There is a sense of authenticity that defines a great pub. Large TVs dot the walls and, over in a secluded section of the bar, full TAB facilities are available. However, a great pub is about a great drink, and this is backed up by the selection of impressive beers that offer everything from crafty to the curious. Put simply, it’s a sure bet that anyone who loves a delicious, cold brew will find something here to satisfy their thirst.
Similarly, the wine list brings forth both local and far-flung offerings. Of particular interest is a lovely little Argentinian Malbec, which is rarely seen on pub lists anywhere these days.
A good thing, too, because the food menu at Ducks Nuts is as playful as the wines. A range of small bites – including Jalapeno Poppers and Popcorn Prawns – are available for those looking for a quick snack alongside their drink.
For those looking to step it up, there is a great range of steaks that deliver the dual promise of quality and value – ensuring you can enjoy a delicious cut of meat without breaking the bank. Or perhaps try one of the duck dishes (but we’ll let you work out whether the bar’s titular ingredient has made it into the mix!)
The Ducks Nuts is open from 11.00am seven days a week with lunch and dinner available every day. There are two outdoor areas available, and live entertainment each weekend.
