Yesterday’s Melbourne Cup saw every track in Australia filled with thousands of people ready to try their luck at backing a winner in the big race. Each track was beautifully decorated, as always, with an array of blooms in bright colours and very stylish marquees.

The Melbourne Cup is also one of the biggest events of the year on the social calendar for fashionistas. It’s the day that designers and milliners dress and accessorise celebrities in their latest creations with the aim of setting a lasting trend.

Having relocated to the first floor of the Capital Theatre Building, restaurant manager Tim Stewart proudly says that this spot – and their recent re-vamp – is one they intend to keep for a while.

Old and New – Heritage Building Opening at NewActon

Fires tore through Parlour, Flint and Bicicletta in 2011. Since then, Canberrans have mourned the loss of the heart of NewActon. However, after a couple of years of careful reconstruction the final pieces of the precinct are falling in to place. The recent opening of A. Baker showed the process was almost complete and, now with Parlour re-opening its doors with a fresh (though familiar) look, the historic building is filled with edgy new places to meet and dine.
