The Canberra Services Club is a friendly club situated within easy walking distance of Manuka and Kingston, next to the Manuka Oval.
The Clubs atmosphere is unique in Canberra. It has a traditional interior and cosy open fireplace for winter months, a pleasant beer garden for the summer and a veranda off the main bar area. There is a host of historical memorabilia on display at the Club.
All standard bar drinks are available at club prices and food is also available at the Club’s restaurant Manuka Thai Cuisine. The Club has two pool tables which are only $1 per game and two full sized snooker tables for use by members only. The Club also has 15 poker machines.
There are raffles every Friday evening, and regular live music events. The annual ANZAC Day celebrations and 2-up game always draw a large crowd along with the Prime Minister’s XI cricket match at Manuka Oval.
The Club was inaugurated in 1947 and has a special place in the local community, as witnessed by the fact that the Governor General himself attended the 50th Anniversary celebration.
The long association with Papua New Guinea is another thing of which the Club is justifiably proud.
Many service organisations including Australian Defence Forces, Australian Federal Police, ACT Fire Brigade and other such service organisations utilise the venue for functions and meetings, along with many social and community groups. Membership is open to all, subject to approval by the Club board at only $5.50 per year.
