Brunching in Braddon

Spotted by Style Stalkers, Deejay & Sofia from The Fashion Vault

Walking down Lonsdale Street (one of Canberra's trendiest) on Saturday morning, Daniella and I spotted Pat looking stylish and wearing an overall effortless feel.

Pat's outfit is well-balanced. His coat - although on trend - is a classic piece which will last season after season and is matched perfectly with his custom Dejour slim-fit jeans and Asos pointed toe loafers.

Pat was on his way to brunch and said he put his outfit together with comfort in mind - proving men can dress with style without compromising comfort. No need for track suits, boys!

Julie in Blue

Sunday afternoon at Palace Electric Cinemas in New Acton brought a pop of colour into my life, thanks to the very stylish Julie. Proof that all anyone needs to stand out from the crowd is a single statement piece.

Let's all be honest now - Canberrans have a habit of filling at least 70% of our wardrobes with black clothing (myself and lovely Julie are both undeniably guilty of this) – But let's face it, black is forever stylish, creates a beautiful silhouette and won’t show that shamefully embarrassing stain I dropped on myself at lunch (or is that just me?). Anyway, as the saying goes “Women who wear black lead colourful lives” so while I stand proud in my primarily head-to-toe black, I admit that sometimes I dare to want to wear a bold colour.

Julie proves the key to wearing bold colour is to pick your piece. A bright coat is a great Canberra style choice as, first of all, it’s practical. It can brighten up your day but can be removed for those in the office who might see you as too radical and, best of all, can work with everything you already have. The trick is to pick a colour that is on the same colour palette as the majority of your winter clothes or go really bold and pick something that is a sharp contrast.

I couldn’t help but have major coat-envy when leaving Julie. She was just so completely chic.

Funky Elegance

I couldn’t help but be drawn to Ivana when I saw her entering The Lucky’s Local Fashion Trail event last month. Wearing striking red palazzo leg pants and a classic white top she simply oozed elegance.

Ivana mentioned she had just come from work and it was an outfit she just threw on. This clearly illustrates the value in investing in classic cuts. Having staple items in your wardrobe ensure that you can look effortlessly chic all the time.

Shop for these pieces at places like Zara, Oxford and Saba. Palazzo pants are also a great way to elongate your legs.

Worthy of the stage

Canberra winter can be mean, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your winter style in the name of warmth. It is all about texture- and some clever layering!

This is Hilary, spotted looking chic and cosy at the Canberra Theatre this past Saturday night. Head to toe in vintage pieces her sequined beaded skirt was striking, effortless and allowed winter warm tights to be worn but carefully hidden. With the added warmth from her stunning hand-me-down vintage fur coat Hilary received from her Mum- Mum where is ours!?- Hilary didn't have to sacrifice any style in the name of the dreaded Canberra cold.

Winter layering can be a tricky business, playing with different textures is key in order to not looked swamped by fabric. Hilary also balanced her look beautifully by keeping her hair and makeup understated in order to not look too ‘done’. All together Hilary’s outfit was youthful, fun and oh so glamorous- worthy of its own stage.

Vintage Flair

Stalked by Mia Carr

It was hard miss the striking Belinda Miners at the Canberra Handmade Markets a few weekends ago. Co-owner of Retro Pantry, Belinda perfectly displayed her unique style and "passion for all things vintage and retro", wearing a handmade Retro Pantry skirt and collective vintage pieces.

Standing next to the bubbly Belinda made me want to don the same look and go chasing after Danny Zuko. I also couldn't help but notice how Belinda's seriously enviable jewelled cat-eye sunglasses and pearl cuff would be the perfect additions to any on trend and modern look.

Our favourite part of Belinda's outfit though? - Her absolute elegance and confidence while rocking her own unique style.
