Worthy of the stage

Spotted by Style Stalker, Mia Carr.

Canberra winter can be mean, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your winter style in the name of warmth. It is all about texture- and some clever layering!

This is Hilary, spotted looking chic and cosy at the Canberra Theatre this past Saturday night. Head to toe in vintage pieces her sequined beaded skirt was striking, effortless and allowed winter warm tights to be worn but carefully hidden. With the added warmth from her stunning hand-me-down vintage fur coat Hilary received from her Mum- Mum where is ours!?- Hilary didn't have to sacrifice any style in the name of the dreaded Canberra cold.

Winter layering can be a tricky business, playing with different textures is key in order to not looked swamped by fabric. Hilary also balanced her look beautifully by keeping her hair and makeup understated in order to not look too ‘done’. All together Hilary’s outfit was youthful, fun and oh so glamorous- worthy of its own stage.

Vintage Flair

Stalked by Mia Carr

It was hard miss the striking Belinda Miners at the Canberra Handmade Markets a few weekends ago. Co-owner of Retro Pantry, Belinda perfectly displayed her unique style and "passion for all things vintage and retro", wearing a handmade Retro Pantry skirt and collective vintage pieces.

Standing next to the bubbly Belinda made me want to don the same look and go chasing after Danny Zuko. I also couldn't help but notice how Belinda's seriously enviable jewelled cat-eye sunglasses and pearl cuff would be the perfect additions to any on trend and modern look.

Our favourite part of Belinda's outfit though? - Her absolute elegance and confidence while rocking her own unique style.

Leatheron Layering

By Mia Carr

Tommy Ge is a Sydney based designer from Leatheron Sydney whom I happened to catch at last weekend’s Canberra Handmade Markets. I loved how Tommy worked multiples textures in this outfit, mixing crisp white cotton with dark denim on fierce leather.

Tommy seriously knows how to layer like a pro and isn't afraid try to the controversial circa 90s skirt over pants trend. My opinion- he nails it and I can’t help but draw style comparisons to the amazing Alexander Wang. Bonus points for the street cool high-tops.

His tip when layering leather is to pick soft, comfortable and lightweight pieces like the ones in his recent Leatheron Sydney collection. Tommy's look in two words: sharp and smart. Now thanks to Marc Jacobs and Tommy Ge I am becoming a strong believer of men in skirts. What do you think?

4 Key Trends This Season

Winter is officially upon us! We thought you might be looking for some ideas to update your wardrobe to reflect the change, stay warm and most of all remain stylish and on-trend.

Here are the 4 Key Pieces we've seen come straight off the runway and onto the streets lately.

1. Capes

They're warm, fashionable and very very versatile! The cape isn't too over the top and can be worn with a casual outfit. We have seen many coats and jackets being used like a cape (sleeveless) of late and love the effortless yet super chic look it gives an outfit!

2. A Knit Sweaterdress

For those days when you simply cannot imagine pulling on another pair of pants, go for a sweaterdress. Choose a form-fitting one for a dressier look or rock a more relaxed version for the weekends over a pair of tights or opaque stockings.

3. Denim

Denim and Chambray are HUGE! Worn together works great for a cool street style look and goes very well with any other shade or bright pop of colour. The good news is, denim keeps you warm and skinny styles can be tucked into boots very easily!

4. Knee Hight Boots

Warm and chic—two main qualities we look for in cold-weather footwear—come together with the perfect pair of knee-high boots. Flat styles are great for strolling around at the weekend farmers markets and heeled versions are great for dressy occasions.

Casual Chic for Autumn

Dressing for Autumn is a favourite among many, as it's not too cold and it's not too warm! Therefore, you are able to layer using cardigans, coats and scarves but you can also show a bit of skin without freezing!

We love this casual chic street look which has been dressed up with a pair of blue/black pumps. The denim jeans have been cuffed at the ankle (this also elongates the leg) and paired with a light green collared shirt and blue cardigan. The brown bag is a standout and goes great with the model's auburn hair.
