After selling out in less than thirty minutes, months before the festival, Spilt Milk was unleashed at Commonwealth Park over the weekend in a celebration of all things sun, fun, great tunes, delicious street food and, of course, sweet, sweet booze.

Nestled deep amongst the trees, by sundown the festival felt like a psychedelic forest fiesta and was a glowing vision of light displays and fireworks that radiated straight through the tree tops.

With 37 artists across three stages, 22 visual artists and dozens of food and craft beer vendors in the massive line-up, the festival truly put Canberra on the map and did not disappoint with revellers partying well into the night – locals and visitors alike.

From gates open to the last song, the musical plethora left the crowds wide-eyed and breathless after experiencing some of the very best musical talent in Australia and around the globe – right here in the nation’s capital!

Boasting artists like Flume, Hermitude (a highlight for me!), Peking Duk, Allday, Client Liason, Cosmos Midnight, DMAs, Gang of Youths, Hot Dub Time Machine, LDRU, Paces, Slumberjack, Sticky Fingers, Vera Blue, Vince Staples and Violent Soho on the main Angove and Basquiat Stages; and Champion Ruby, Honey Dijon, Genesis Owusu and many more national acts on the Boxcutter Tipi.

The day was as much about the food as it was about the music, with vendors like Mary’s, Messina, Happy as Larry, Bao Stop and more combining to create a culinary journey for the hungry masses. The lines and wait for food went for DAYS, but after hours of dancing and drinking it was well worth the wait.

Canberra’s favourite brewers Pact Co and Capital Brewing Co took over the taps alongside Batlow Cider and Little Creatures, which provided some incredible craft beers throughout the day and a welcome drop to the multitude of Smirnoff Ice Double Blacks in the hands of many.

Those lucky enough to get their hands on a VIP Sitting Pretty ticket were treated to a private bar, clean toilets and prime viewing position of the Angove Stage. Believe me when I say these tickets were well worth the price and had you feeling fresh as a daisy throughout the day – all the more reason to kick on well into the night and save your energy for the big finale, Flume.

On a high from some successful wins at the ARIA Awards, Flume played all the bangers that the crowd were desperate to hear, leaving chart-topping Never Be Like You to the very end – the perfect way to top off a ripper of a day.

We can’t wait to see the bigger and better line-up for the next Spilt Milk. Although nothing as been announced about its return, we say bring on the festival in 2017!
